A Proud Heritage: Documenting Winter Garden’s Historical African American Community

Photograph and Archival Silver Print by Peter Schreyer – 2019

A Proud Heritage: Documenting Winter Garden’s Historical African American Community is now on display at Winter Garden City Hall through April 30. A collaboration between the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation and the City of Winter Garden, the exhibit revisits the city’s African American community twenty years after it was documented in Small Town Orange County: The Central Florida Communities of South Apopka, Bithlo, East Winter Garden, and Taft, a project of Orange County Government and the Crealdé School of Art in Winter Park, Florida. The Winter Garden Heritage Foundation provided updated captions for the original photographs.
